Gloria is the closest proper beach to Chios Town, making it the default choice for visitors staying in the capital who want a quick swim without renting a car. Located just a few kilometres from the harbour, it is reachable by bus or a short taxi ride. The beach is a pleasant stretch of fine pebbles and coarse sand with calm, clear water. It is not the most dramatic beach on Chios — it lacks the black volcanic stones of Mavra Volia or the seclusion of Elinda — but it makes up for this with convenience and a friendly, local atmosphere. You are more likely to find Greek families here than tourists. Gloria has a well-regarded beach bar and taverna right on the sand, with sun loungers, umbrellas, and a menu of fresh grilled fish and Greek salads. The bar is a genuine local favourite, especially for after-beach dining as the evening cools. The water is clean and calm, sheltered from the north wind, and generally shallow enough for children for a good stretch from shore. In the evenings, the beach empties of swimmers and fills with locals walking the seafront. For visitors with limited time in Chios Town — perhaps just a day from the Çeşme ferry — Gloria is the easiest and most convenient swimming option, with the added bonus of a good lunch right on the beach.

Bus from Chios Town harbour: lines heading south pass close to Gloria — ask the driver. Taxi from the harbour: about €6. The taverna here is one of the better value spots for grilled fish near the town. Come early evening to avoid the afternoon heat and stay for dinner.

Our neighbourhood beach — we come here almost every evening in summer. The taverna does excellent grilled fish and the atmosphere in the evening when the heat drops is wonderful. Perfect for a quick swim before dinner if you are staying in town.
Feribot limanına çok yakın, araç olmadan da gidilebiliyor. Su temiz, plaj bar güzel. Sakız kasabasında kalıyorsanız yürüme mesafesinde iyi bir plaj seçeneği. Lokanta da fena değil.
